About

The Pier Gallery started trading in February 2023 and is now open seven days a week through the Spring, Summer and Autumn.
All of the art exhibited is created in and around Ilfracombe, so the gallery has a real local flavour.  As well as prints and original paintings we sell a range of other hand-made work including ceramics, glass and jewellery.  Run by the artists themselves, you will always find one of them serving in the gallery.  They are very happy to either let you browse in peace or help you make a choice and chat about the work on show.

Who

The Pier Gallery is owned by four local artists; Heather McNeilly, Fiona Bates, Lucy Aldridge and Paul Swailes. Heather is a stained glass artist and creates beautiful pieces of glass art. She also undertakes local restoration work and is well known for her skill and abilities in this field. Fiona is a ceramicist who specialises in making 3d pieces with a nautical theme that can be free standing or wall mounted. Lucy is a sign writer who is heavily influenced by the traditional fun fair style. She has also hand painted all of our gallery signage. Paul is an experienced acrylic painter who captures the local coastline in his paintings, creating dramatic scenes of crashing waves.

Where

The Pier Gallery is situated on The Quay in Ilfracombe on the picturesque harbour. Ilfracombe has a bustling working harbour where you can watch the trawlers bobbing in with their catch and witness the RNLI launch their boat when it’s needed out at sea. Ilfracombe has a thriving art scene with a number of galleries. There are lots of local and independent businesses along Ilfracombe’s High Street, Fore Street and the Seafront where you can enjoy some retail therapy and a bite to eat and there are some great tourist attractions such as the Ilfracombe Museum and Aquarium. Damien Hirst’s Verity is just a few hundred yards past the gallery.
